Wonderful room and superb bathroom. Fabulous bed and superb linen. Restaurant average. On arrival the hotel, situated alone on a long, quiet, straight stretch of road looked like hotel from a Hitchcock film. The long-neglected neon lit sign on the front seemed incongruous with Dickensian wooden beams, distinctive having been painted green. We passed a faded menu and entered the reception. The door did not creak, but otherwise all appeared as it had done in an original Hitchcock film, the wooden desk littered with hand-written notes, the pigeon-holes for letters remained largely empty, and a musty smell of 'old'. A congenial man whose appearance matched the style of the hotel welcomed us in French. We booked in, and selected our choices for the following breakfast, ticking boxes on an A4. We were led up some stairs which must have once been ancient, but had recently been covered with extremely hard-wearing surfaces that would not look out-of-place in a high-street bank. No creaking. We entered a huge room. We had booked the most expensive room to avoid disappointment. The bed was also huge. The modernised bathroom was truly magnificent. We were so delighted. Later we were to discover that the bed was wonderfully comfortable and the bedlinen was superb. We had a cocktail in the garden before going into dine. The dining room had been decorated by someone with unusual tastes. The waiter smiled knowingly when I joked about the wallpaper. Large red roses, orange carnations, and pink peonies adorned the walls, enhanced by orange and red tentacles that were the wall-lights. As it was Monday, there was only one choice on the menu, a chicken and vegetable casserole which was delicious. The following morning we arrived 30 minutes early for our pre-ordered breakfast. Looking around the room, some tables showed signs of departed guests, and others were laid out complete with selected food. We recognised our selection on one of the tables.

Despite there being a large refurbishment project being done on the outside of the hotel don’t be put off, once through to door the warm welcome of the couple who own the hotel and the extensive update of the decor inside you know this will be a special place Our cosy but well decorated and super clean, the shower room well appointed The dining room was modern and comfortable, The food was delicious and a good selection with a good choice of wine.Marshmallows were a special treat. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice What really makes the place so special are the charming owners and the friendly staff who are all very professional

A little gem in a superb location, very close to the A88. My family and I stopped here overnight on the way from Cherbourg down south. From the moment we stepped inside we were made feel very welcome. A very relaxed and hospitable environment. The rooms were immaculate with incredibly comfortable beds. The food was the highlight - absolutely superb. Catherine is a wonderful chef and we were thoroughly spoiled! There is also a kids menu which my children really enjoyed. Would highly recommend.

I liked the remote but easily accessible location. The garden of the property has a very relaxing feel to it over looking the countryside. All of the staff were very patient and helpful. The food was outstanding, cooked with care and skill using quality produce. The room was clean, tidy, well thought out, and comfortable. Most of all, I like the character and feel of the place, which in a large part is down to the staff. I would highly recommend stopping here.

The location - the staff - the bedroom - the bathroom were excellent but the meals were outstanding and such good value for money. I wish we lived closer. The restaurant was so comfortable the ambiance delightful and I’m not surprised that so many people were dining there. Well done all
